A unique opportunity for Rochester tea lovers to learn about Japanese tea ceremony at Leaf Tea Bar. Enjoy this beautifully choreographed and revered ritual of making powered green tea by a certified instructor. Learn about the cultural and spiritual significance of the tea ceremony.
The presentation has been named Koon Pooh "薫風" meaning, a fresh breeze. It is between spring and summer, an appropriate name given the season.
Guests will be served a bowl of matcha and traditional Japanese sweets.
About the presenter: Rie Maywar was born and raised in Japan. She started her practice in the Way of Tea (what is called tea ceremony in the US) at age 15 and has attained the 3rd degree instructor license from the Urasenke* school of tea. She now lives with her husband and two children in Rochester. The way of tea gives her a deeper appreciation for the beauty of nature and art.
