Earth Hour
Happy to introduce here Miss Tara, taking charge of the Earth Hour last evening (happens to be around the kitchen table again).
Future was abstract, until the kids arrived. 2050 is suddenly not about me a grumpy old man ready to go, but about Tara who might be having little kids of her own and dreaming of a future for them. When I see her grow, and enjoy in her a happiness that words cannot express, I ask myself what right do I have to deny her the same privilege.
What kind of world shall we bequeath her? An earth we plundered because we were so unable to restrain our consumption, without a thought for the coming generations?
We owe a lot to all the children of the world. This hour of darkness bears a light for our collective future.
