Organic Lapsang Souchong Tea is a famous tea from China’s Anhui Province is made by drying robust black tea over pine wood smoke. The flavor of pinewood smoke nicely complements the sweet silkiness of the black tea.
An undertone of sweetness and a light but a lingering astringent finish makes this tea a very enjoyable. Very smooth.

The practice of smoking tea dates to Quing Era when it was begun as a way to hasten the drying of the tea for the marching armies. It is supposed to predate the manufacture of Keemun, another popular black tea from China.

Delicious and perfectly smoky!
The initial aroma of the leaves before brewing had potent smokiness similar to hickory, it was almost offensive. Once steeped, the smokiness became much more subtle ans pleasing. Upon sipping, the tea is overall hearty, smooth, and enjoyable, although not on my list of must-haves. It seems to be missing that bit of bitterness and astringency I like, perhaps I didn't brew it long enough. This was the first black tea I have explored outside orange pekoe, english and irish breakfast, which I am more familiar with. I will certainly keep exploring new styles of tea!
I have bought many of the different kinds of teas sold here. Every one is excellent quality and very tasty. I look forward to my cup of tea every morning?
I bought this tea at the Corn Hill Arts Festival, not sure whether I would like it or not. It has a very strong smoky smell and I had my doubts about it. But as Mr. lama advised me, I gave it a try and I absolutely love it! It has the perfect amount of smokiness with its natural black tea flavor. It is especially good with a dash of honey in it. I advise this tea to anyone that likes smoky or nutty, strong flavors rather than herbal, flowery tea drinkers. Money well spent.
