Long Jing, Pre-Qingming 2021 - Organic Green Tea

5 reviews

Our pre-Qingming Long Jing or, Dragon Well, organic green tea this year comes from Lin An, a mountain village about 30 miles from the famous West Lake. The tea has the characteristic vegetal and nutty notes in a good balance.

Dragon Well is one of the most celebrated green teas of China. It is also called Long Jing and comes in many grades. Our batch is among the premium grade. Tea harvested in early spring before Qingming festival (15th day after spring equinox), is sought after for its delicate and refined notes.

LEAF: Tender budsets, color recalling the earliest shoots on the tea bush with a fresh vegetal and toasted aroma.

INFUSED LEAF: Pale green, succulent buds with notes of chestnut and cucumber.

CUP: Pale green with fragrant floral, vegetal and nutty aroma. Lingering nutty finish.

1 level tbsp or 2.5 gm per 8 fl oz cup

2 mins. Second steep 3 min.

Xi Hu or Jade Mountain? A brief comparison

This Xi Hu Long Jing is delicious. If you're looking for a traditionally flavored Long Jing this is an excellent choice. If your considering between this and the cheaper Jade Mountain that Happy Earth also has I would think about the flavor profile you're looking for. The Jade Mountain comes off a little fruity while this Xi Hu has a more traditional vegetal flavor. Whichever you choose you won't be disappointed!

Light color, deep flavor

I am writing this review with a fresh cup of West Lake Dragon Well / Xi Hu Long Jing, Pre-Qingming 2020 beside me. This is an exquisite tea. The leaves are long and thin with a strong fragrance right out of the bag. The tea is lighter than I'd expected even after three minutes of steeping--an almost silvery green--and the flavor is rich and complex. It's wonderful and relaxing. I bought this tea to pair with reading with Grace Lin's WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON. There's a tea mentioned in the book that is said to cure the Green Tiger's poison: "The steaming liquid slipped down her throat and seemed to fill every part of her with a fresh energy. She took another sip of tea and breathed in the tangy fragrance which smelled familiar." I'm not sure if the author had Dragon Well tea in mind when she wrote this, but I can't think of a better way to describe this excellent tea.

Great Tea

Great tea as always from Happy Earth Tea! I would have to taste this grade back to back with their standard Long Jing. I'm not sure if my palette is sophisticated enough to enjoy the differences between the two haha! Makes a great cup though, I definitely enjoy it.

Happy Earth Tea

Thank you Greg! The Xi Hu Dragon Well should have more body and be smoother than the Jade Mountain, our regular Long Jing.
