DESCRIPTION

Our Kukicha is made largely from stems and leaves of organically grown Gyokuro and Sencha teas. It has a mellow flavor (similar but muted form of the Gyokuro or Sencha notes) with a refreshing aftertaste. Since Kukicha has a high content of stems it has less caffeine than a regular green tea. This is a very good introductory tea to Japanese green tea category.

DRY LEAF: A mottled appearance of light green stems and the dark green of the leaves. Bears a fresh sweet green smell.

INFUSED LEAF: Has a vegetal, grassy nose with savory undertones.

CUP: A pale green liquor that has notes of sweet grass and boiled veggies. Light body with a just a hint of savoriness. Refreshing.  

STEEPING TIPS:

   1 teaspoon or 3 grams for an 8 oz. cup

   176°F 

   1 min, re-steep: 1.5 mins

Exactly the kind of kukicha ((*karigane*)) I was looking for!

For the past couple years, I have been ordering this particular type of kukicha from other online tea vendors such as Charaku Tea; Ocha & Co.; Rishi; but I wanted to try a new vendor this time, so I ordered from Happy Earth Tea. I am so pleased with the quality and flavor of this organic kukicha ((*although technically, it's a karigane, since it is made from the gyokuro & sencha twigs--which is why it is bright green in appearance, differing from the more earthy kukicha which brews to a golden brown colour)). I was so touched by the thoughtful packaging, the owner's handwritten thank~you note and the complimentary sample of matcha gen mai cha, which was also delicious & wonderful. I plan to order both again next time. Thank You So much! ~Marisa

Love this tea!

I bought 1oz of this tea so I could try it and I loved it! Will definitely need a larger amount next time. This tea reminds me a lot of sencha, but more mellow. So if you enjoy sencha, you will like this tea.
